Autumn appear to be much earlier this year with days already cooling down with occasional rain. But beware of warm days. Watch the watering of your trees.

The growth is slowing down with some trees already showing autumn colors and others already bare. Trees like smooth bark elms, wisteria and white stinkwoods, that were not defoliated, are already losing their leaves.

Keep feeding your trees to build up strength for the next season. Some olives will show a lot of new growth. Feed them to speed up their development.

Temperatures are very high, days are dry and then you add the wind. Altogether this weather conditions dry out our bonsai at a very fast rate. The temperature of a bonsai pot in the full sun can be very high. This situation just increases the rate of evaporation of the moisture.

Summer is here and the days are hot, warm and windy. The wind will cause bonsai to dry out very quickly. Take good care when watering your trees and, when you decide to hide inside from the heat, do remember that your trees are still outside and need water. In the heat, together with the wind you can lose your favorite bonsai within a few hours. Do try and water twice a day. Also misting your trees during the day will help to cool them down and keep the soil moist. (I still need to see any damage due to watering in the heat of the day caused by water drops on the leaves!)
